Finding the Target: First Morning Magic in Southeast Turkey
At the end of April 2026, we did a road trip across Southeast Turkey, a region renowned for its rich landscapes and incredible birdlife. Near the top of our target list was a true local specialty: the White-throated Robin (Irania gutturalis).
We didn't have to wait long. On our very first morning near Gaziantep, it was the first bird I heard vocalizing—and, in a stroke of luck, the first bird I managed to photograph on the trip. Starting a birding trip by locking onto a target species right out of the gate sets a fantastic tone for what’s to come.
