Great Skuas are the bomb. They rule the seas and are f.... bas ass! Skuas chase other seabirds to regurgitate their food but if you fail to do so with a Great Skua on your tail, then you're on the menu. Great skuas have a hawk tip at the end of their bill like many bird of prey and shrikes do, this is to bite and break the neck of their victim.
When photographing the seabirds earlier this month an adult Great Skua tried this with a juvenile Hering Gull. Only the gull got saved by spectators first. But the keen eye of the skua kept his target in sight. It made another attempt, that I could photograph but the gull escaped again Soon after, the skua got to him the third time and go what it wanted, only that was out at sea and out of my reach.
