Southern Invaders

In the past decade there's a fast change in the Dutch avifauna. Southern species are moving north and common winter visitors have became very scarce.

The latest additions to the Dutch bird lists are an example of those. The Cattle Egret (above) has successfully bred at the Weerribben and a handful of chicks have made it, this is the first time in the Netherlands.

The other addition is a new species of bird, if accepted: The Purple Swamphen. This dinosaurs crawls through the reed at Alblasserdam. Attacking the non suspecting roots and devouring them while holding in it's large claws.
